In carrying out activities at the Confucius Institute in Sibiu, a vector of success is the human resource. The institute also functions as a support structure for the Chinese-English language and literature curriculum, a program that is based on the continuing interest in philological education in the context of the development of Sibiu’s multicultural environment, multilingual business environment and education in the area, both state and private – in which the Chinese language is gaining in importance. These peculiarities of the socio-cultural and educational space of Sibiu – and not only – are likely to increase the demand for well-trained graduates, well versed in the two foreign languages.
The academics who teach at the Confucius Institute in Sibiu are native speakers, specializing in teaching Chinese to foreigners, as well as Romanian teachers who have in addition to academic training and extensive experience in the department. The complementary role of the Confucius Institute within the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu is also to prepare – within the Chinese-English study program – a new generation of Sinologists and to form a critical mass of specialists with communication skills. Intercultural in a global world, subject to unpredictable changes and in continuous interaction at all levels: social, cultural, educational, economic, political, and ecological. Being a student and specializing in Sinology means having the dedication to constantly improve oneself through work and interest in China and its culture. LBUS students of the Chinese-English program benefit from scholarships in China and from specialized and intensive courses through which they try to unravel the secrets of this multi-millennial civilization.
